Funders spotlight: Lloyds Bank Foundation
In our regular feature in the Funding Information North East (FINE) ebulletin we ask funders to tell us about their grant giving over the next few months. Subscribe to our FINE Online ebulletin by getting in touch with jen.thompson@vonne.org.uk
Thanks to Louise Telford, Grant Manager for the North East, Cumbria and North Yorkshire at Lloyds Bank Foundation for responses.

What are your current funding priorities?
The Lloyds Bank Foundation invests in charities supporting people to break out of disadvantage at critical points in their lives, and promote practical approaches to lasting change. Our funding is adapted to the needs of small and medium sized charities (income between £25,000 and £1 million). We encourage applications from the North East of England. We offer flexible and responsive grant making by providing the following programmes:
- ENABLE – for organisations that have identified clear development needs (up to a total of £15k over two years)
- INVEST – a flexible, long term core funding programme for organisations delivering clear, targeted outcomes for disadvantaged people (up to £25k per annum and up to six years)
- ENHANCE – an option for the charity to apply for tailored in-kind support to strengthen and develop it. This support may include a Lloyds Banking Group Charity Mentor and/ or consultancy support in areas such as strategic planning and marketing. If a charity is successful in being awarded an Invest, or Enable grant the charity can apply for Enhance support.
To be eligible:
- Charities are expected to be working with people experiencing multiple disadvantage at times of transition (a list of these transitions are available on the Foundation’s eligibility guidance)
- The organisation must be a registered charity or a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and must have a track record of direct service delivery, operating mainly in England and Wales working with people 17 years and older.
Are there any applications that you are struggling to bring in that you would encourage?
Although we run a range of funding programmes as detailed above - we are looking mainly to encourage Enable programme applications.
Are there any key pieces of advice you would give groups to help them submit quality applications and increase their chances of being successful?
- Read the guidelines.
- Don’t just tell us what you do, tell us how it fits our criteria!
- Tell us how you monitor and evaluate your work and tell us the difference your work will make.
- Tell us how you work with people, how do you get referrals, what do you do with people and how.
- If you need advice you can contact Louise Telford the Grant Manager for the North East, Cumbria and North Yorkshire. She can be contacted at ltelford@lloydsbankfoundation.org.uk
When is the next deadline and how do groups go about applying?
Enable grants can be applied for at any time. The next round for Invest opens 5th September and closes 14th October 2016. Groups should visit the website below.
